Heads up! This newsletter is more than a year old. Links may be out of date or lead to unexpected places, or the context may have changed. Please handle with care.
Hello!
This week, my first ever video from Czechia, as I visit an office built into an elevator! Yes, I'm surprised that I missed this until now too, it feels like something I should have known about years ago.

And over on Lateral: Anna Ploszajski, Scott Manley and Bill Sunderland face questions about stately stands, letter lists and silver streaks!
Other folks I've found this week in the world of video:
- Adam Ragusea continues to make exceptional cooking videos. His whole channel is worth checking out, you'll probably find
something that appeals, but you could start with real space food vs fake space food or how buttermilk isn't butter milk.
- A tour around an Airbus A380 that's in the middle of maintenance, having been stripped to the floorboards. The sheer scale of the open interior is incredible. You can skip the first six minutes or so, though; this video takes a long time to get to the plane itself!
- Marques Brownlee drives the fastest car ever made, and it's electric. Acceleration like a launched rollercoaster; 0-200mph in ten seconds. If nothing else, watch for his reaction after he slows down a bit.
- Road Guy Rob is a fast-talking man in a high-vis jacket with a microphone, who's enthusiastic about roads. (It's good to have branding, and this is strong branding.) I'd recommend starting with his story on how to fix red traffic lights, and how to stop people running them.
What about the rest of the internet? This week, I've found:
- The Harlem Globetrotters aren't quite the household name they once were — but even if you've never heard of them, this interview with one of their perennial opponents, the Washington Generals, is worth reading. Every night on tour, the Generals go out and lose a basketball game: how much of a toll does being a
permanent heel take?
- A profile of Lee Holloway, a young programmer diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, along with those dear to him. This is a devastating, heartbreaking story that deals
with identity and neurology, and for that reason, it won't be for everyone: but it's also the article that's stuck with me the most this week.
- An interactive globe of the ancient earth: you can call up the position of the continents from many
millions of years ago, and compare modern country outlines and city locations.
- A wonderful article about the calls of Australian magpies, and how smart they are.
And finally: space elevator!
All the best,
— Tom
